I just found this picture on an old flash card, which seemed somehow appropriate as Winkel & Balktick are doing yet another one of their superb events this evening at the McKittrick Hotel. This unique space is home of the incredible Sleep No More which has been created by the English performance group Punchdrunk.
If you get a chance, go to see Sleep No More as it is one of the greatest things I’ve ever witnessed. $6,000,000 was spent over a six month period to create a magical 100,000 sq ft space across 6 floors on West 27th st in NYC. I saw the show twice during the previews as I had a friend working on the production and at the time I likened it to seeing a David Lynch production of Macbeth. The NY Times is the only publication which has been allowed to photograph the interior of the building and those images can be seen here.
A few months ago I wrote a blog about Winkel & Balktick’s after party for the No Pants Subway Ride organized by Improv Everywhere. With the demise of the legendary Danger parties run by Will Etundi, Winkel & Balktick along with the Gemini & Scorpio are the leaders of the NYC Underground party scene. Go along to the W&B show from 11pm tonight at 530 west 27th St if you are in the city and looking for something exciting to do.
