Over sixty artists showed up from Australia for CMJ this year, so Sounds Australia hosted a ‘Curated Night of Australian Music’ last night at Santos Party House in the (temporarily renamed) Beat Pie upstairs and Sound Gallery downstairs. An extraordinary number of hugely talented musicians were on display, from the phenomenal EDM with vocals by SAFIA (who are three guys from Canberra) to the superb voice of Hamish Anderson and the great psychedelic Americana of Melbourne’s Immigrant Union, who happen to be led on guitar and vocal by Brent DeBour who is probably better known for playing drums with the mighty Dandy Warhols. If you weren’t there last night you missed out, but you have another opportunity to see some great Australian music on display at the Aussie BBQ this Saturday at the Delancey. I’ll be there for sure, so see you there if you make it down.
