The last couple of weeks have been more than slightly insane. I’ve shot over 5000 pictures, a good number of which were at CMJ two weeks ago. Towards the end of CMJ my publicist friend Brad emailed me and asked if I was available to do a shoot with the ‘new Jeff Buckley’. Immediately suspicious I emailed him back saying yes, but asking for clarification.
I’ve always been cautious about labeling musicians as the ‘new Beatles/Stones/Dylan/Buckley/Led Zep/Hendrix’ etc as it can often create unrealistic expectations. Which has led to the to the kiss of death for more than one artist. But I have to say I don’t think that is likely to be the case for Hamish Anderson.
Originally from Melbourne Australia, he is currently traveling the world performing showcases in key cities and we did this photo session last Monday afternoon whilst he was in NYC. I was totally blown away by the quality of his voice at a showcase I photographed at Rockwood on Wednesday and his songs have a depth that is missing from most current music.
I would advise anybody reading this who enjoys quality music to download the five songs on the Howl EP and check out the accompanying video that I’ve embedded at the end of the pictures in this blog. I am now waiting for the album that will no doubt hail him as a remarkable new talent to watch. Hamish Anderson is a boy with a golden voice, but he is not the new Jeff Buckley. He is an artist in his own right with his own sound and an enviable future ahead of him.
