A week after Hurricane Sandy hit I caught the ferry across to Staten Island and made these pictures along the way. The Staten Island Ferry is a NYC institution as it was launched in 1817 and 75,000 passengers a day travel the five miles between Manhattan to Staten Island on the fleet of eight ships. As well as being used by commuters, it’s also a popular journey with tourists as it passes the Statue Of Liberty and affords stunning views of the downtown skyline. It’s also used by some people as a place to take some time out from the day.
