This 60′ x 30′ Flag was donated to a group of Ground Zero volunteers from NYC during the rescue and recovery operations after the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center. It now hangs in Little Italy every year during the San Gennaro Festival from 11th until 24th September as a tribute to 911 First Responders.
It was initially unfurled on a building overlooking the site of Ground Zero and for the next two months many of the volunteers there said it gave them the strength and courage to continue the task before them.
The flag hangs one block from my apartment and I can see it from my window every year during the madness of San Gennaro. I shot these images over the weekend before they pulled the flag down.
